It was Martin Luther King day on 18 January. Everyone should have read about Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I have a dream” speech delivered on 28 August 1963, at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington D.C.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”
Martin Luther King Jr.
Today, if you go on the street and ask anyone, they would tell you about their dreams. I dream of going out to the wilds. I dream of traveling to Tokyo for great sushi dinner. (Check out the best sushi restaurants from timeout https://www.timeout.com/tokyo/restaurants/best-sushi-in-tokyo-10-top-picks)… etc etc… Most importantly, I dream of a day where we can go out mask free!!! But are our dreams only about freedom from the pandemic? On MLK day, US politicians wrote about what had happened to the Capitol and reflected on what had happened in the past 4 years. What kind of freedom are we seeking?
“COVID-19 has brought suffering to people everywhere, but its impact is not shared equally”

Over last year at the workplace, we evolved to a hybrid work arrangement to cope with the situation. Some colleagues managed to work from home the entire time. Some colleagues were managed in a split team arrangement. Behind this, the options are derived from each team member’s real life situation. The pandemic has impacted majority of the business. It has also pushed us to re-think about the needs of the team members of the company. As a manager, I always remind all team members to think of what value are they bringing to the company at the unprecedented times.
Sharing a few quotes from Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.”
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
